Northcentral Regional ATV Trail Council of Government
Let’s Ride! It’s the new Sunday Drive.
2026 Season: May 22, 2026 through September 27, 2026
The 2026 season of the Northcentral Regional ATV Trail (NRAT) is ready to roll from May 22, 2026 through September 27, 2026, and this year is bigger than ever!
With nearly 1,000 miles of designated ATV roads and trails, NRAT continues to be one of Pennsylvania’s premier riding destinations, connecting riders to the heart of the Pennsylvania Wilds across four counties.
New for 2026, the system expands by an additional 94 miles of preferred route, primarily in Tioga County, giving riders even more opportunities to explore our scenic countryside, communities, and businesses.
Riders are encouraged to follow the preferred route, but you may ride any trail or road that is officially marked open for ATV use. Please remember: it is your responsibility to plan your ride and stay on designated open routes only.
The NRAT connects three state ATV trail systems using a network of forest roads, township roads, and select PennDOT roads. This unique riding experience is made possible through strong partnerships among DCNR, PennDOT, counties, local municipalities, and riding organizations working together to support responsible recreation and rural tourism.
Beginning in 2027, a county-led Council of Governments (COG) will assume the lead role in coordinating the NRAT system, helping ensure the continued growth and long-term success of the trail network.
Ride Respectfully
This trail system exists because of collaboration and community support — especially from the municipalities that open their local roads to riders. Without these partnerships, there is no trail.
We welcome you into our communities and ask every rider to help protect the future of the NRAT by riding responsibly, respecting local residents, and being good stewards of the trail system.
Ride smart. Ride safe. And enjoy the ride.
What is a Council of Governments (COG)?
A voluntary regional structure of local governments working together to solve shared challenges
For NRAT specifically, the COG will manage the trail network locally, incorporating input and guidance from agencies and partners
At its core, the NRAT COG will shift decision-making, leadership, and management from DCNR to a local collaborative of governments, while maintaining active engagement and strong relationships with agency partners, organizations, and user groups
Mission
The Northcentral Regional ATV Trail (NRAT) COG mission is to facilitate a safe and sustainable motorized trail network that empowers rural communities to foster conservation and economic growth.
Service Area
The current service area of the NRAT COG is the four-county region in northcentral Pennsylvania consisting of Clinton, Lycoming, Potter, and Tioga Counties. Once established, there is potential for the COG to expand to include counties and municipalities beyond the current footprint.
