Instructor: DCNR staff

Pre-requisites: 18 years of age at class start.

Course Equipment: Appropriate dress for outdoor activity on Day 3, which will be held solely outdoors, rain or shine.

Con-Ed: This course has been approved for 10 continuing education credits by the PA Department of Health: 2 hrs. CPC, 8 hrs. other.

Course Description:
  • Provide a better understanding and improve skills of Type One Search techniques
  • Define types of clues and explain how to properly mark, handle, and document them in the field
  • Learn how to use a map in SAR operations and learn basic compass use, including true north azimuth versus magnetic north
  • Define a ‘ready-pack’ and provide knowledge for searcher survival.
  • Review the incident management system and how it fits into SAR
  • Give participants an opportunity to put their newly acquired knowledge to use in small scale ‘mock searches’ on Day 3.
