Course Description: The PSFA Officers' Command Class (ZOCC) is an intensive 35-hour program designed for current fire officers and officer candidates seeking a well-rounded foundation in command principles, leadership, and decision-making. Participants will explore the critical responsibilities of command officers, including operational priorities, leadership challenges, communication, and the many factors that influence effective incident management.
More than a traditional classroom experience, ZOCC places students into realistic, team-based scenarios designed to challenge both leadership and critical thinking skills. Students will create and manage a hypothetical fire department while navigating simulated emergencies using advanced fire simulation technology. Participants will also engage in mock municipal negotiations and leadership exercises featuring a range of realistic personalities and challenges that officers routinely encounter in the real world, from cooperative stakeholders to difficult personalities and conflicting priorities.
This course develops more than fireground command skills; it builds confidence in leadership, strengthens communication abilities, and prepares officers to make sound decisions under pressure.
Lead the incident. Lead the organization. Lead with confidence.
