WHAT IS A SHERIFF
The office of Sheriff in Pennsylvania is a constitutional office. Each of the Pennsylvania's 67 counties has a Sheriff. The term of each Sheriff is four years.
A Sheriff's duties cover a wide area of responsibilities. As an elected office holder, the Sheriff is in a unique position to meet the needs of their constituents. Some Sheriff's have road patrol and criminal investigations responsibilities. Others have special details such as Drug or DUI enforcement, Search and Rescue, and Mounted units.
Pennsylvania Sheriff's trace their history back to England prior to the signing of the Magna Carta. Today's Sheriff is backed by some of the over 1923 professional and well trained Deputy Sheriffs in Pennsylvania.
A Deputy Sheriff must complete 760 hours of training before they can graduate from the Pennsylvania Sheriff's Academy. In addition to this, deputies must complete regular in-service training to maintain their certifications.

WHAT IS REQUIRED TO OBTAIN A CONCEALED WEAPONS PERMIT?
- The applicant must be at least 21 years of age and reside in Tioga County Pennsylvania. The applicant must furnish a valid Pennsylvania drivers license with the current physical address on it. A post office box, RR, or RD will not be accepted as a legal residence.
- We will only issue a Pennsylvania license to carry to Steuben County, NY and Chemung County, NY residence. You will need to furnish your New York state pistol permit and drivers license. The address on both the drivers license and pistol permit have to match and they cannot be a post office box, RR or RD. These are not accepted as legal residence.
EFFECTIVE JANUARY 3RD 2011 THE TIOGA COUNTY SHERIFF WILL NO LONGER ISSUE L.T.C. TO OUT OF STATE RESIDENTS.
- The application form must be completed legibly and completely by typing or printing in black or blue ink. Failure to comply may result in the application being rejected.
- The application and any attached documents must be brought to the sheriff’s office personally.
- A payment of $20 cash or check made payable to the Tioga County Sheriff’s Department is required when the application is submitted. Debit or credit cards are not accepted.
- Following an investigation, the application will be approved, researched, or rejected while you wait. If rejected, a service fee of $6 will be withheld, and the applicant will received a refund of $14. Notice: the furnishing of false information or offering false evidence of identity is a violation of section 4904 (related to unsworn falsification to authorities).

1. Must have certified birth certificate & social security card (no copies accepted)
